RVRA are proud to inform residents that our own cleaner Cliff Bradley has been hailed as our Local Hero by the local Evening News. The article is as follows:
"Despite 11 years of 2am starts and cleaning people's rubbish, Cliff Bradley has loved every minute of it.
His role as cleaner and handyman on the Rowner estate in Gosport sees him cleaning the stairwells, emptying rubbish chutes and acting as all-round general advice-giver to householders.
He loves his job so much he works Christmas Days and Boxing Days for free.
He said "the hard work was worthwhile when he received thanks from the Rowner residents".
Cliff, 54 said, "people think I'm mad when they see me out and about early on Christmas Day but I love it. I enjoy the challenge of the role. Every day is different and there is a lot of variety. There are good days and bad days. It can be a bit dirty and degrading working with rubbish but when people say thank you it makes up for it.
The best bit is the rapport with the people who live there, I've spent time building up a good relationship with them and they give me bottles of sherry and cards at Christmas".
Mr Bradley, who lives in Elson, took on the role after working at Priddy's Hard for the civic trust helping restore old buildings. When he saw the role advertised by White House Services he jumped at the chance.
He said wife Gill and his 22 year old daughter had got used to his early starts and 11 hour days. He said "they both think I'm mad, but they know I enjoy it. I like being at Rowner in the early morning because I get more done and I get to see the badgers and foxes that roam around.
It's not unknown for me to direct some of the drunken revellers back to their flats after a night out".
He added: "Most of the residents on the estate are friendly and warm people. It is only the minority who give it a bad name"."
RVRA would like to congratulate Cliff and hope he keeps up the good work.

On 24th September 05, there is a planting event at the Rowner Community Garden between 1pm and 4pm. If anyone would like to get involved then please come along.
This is in connection with the Junior Warden Scheme. This scheme was originally devised by our Ward Councillor Nina Champion and a group of young people she had a meeting with at Fairthorn Manor.
Nina took the idea to the Community Policing Panel and they thought it was a great idea. She then discussed this with Tim Houghton of Groundwork Solent with the proposals and explained what young people would like to see. He was very keen to get involved and is currently sending info out through the local schools to have a logo designed and a name for the group. Nina was delighted and though it a good idea if the children were to get involved right from the beginning.
At a recent Police Panel Meeting, other agencies were invited to get involved this includes Nina Champion, Siskin Schools, Brune Park School, local scout groups, Hampshire Youth Service, Rowner Access, Gosport Borough Council, Groundwork Solent, Time-Out and of course the Police.
Gary Boud (our local Beat Officer), has reported that the scheme has gone down extremely well with Police and other Beat Managers are interested with a view to implementing it over the whole Borough.
RVRA would like to thank Nina for all her hard work even though she has not been very well and we send her all our warmest wishes for a full recovery.
